Then we open the holiday season with a festive reception\, a tree-lighting ceremony\, and some favorite Christmas carols for the whole family to sing along. \nSchedule of Events\nCome for all or part of our festivities to kick off the Christmas season in Historic Longwood. \n4:00 PM – Open House History Tour\nOur tour guides will take you on an open-house walking tour of six historic buildings in the district. Check in by 3:45 \n5:00 PM – Holiday Reception\nInside the Historic Civic Center\, with hot cocoa served by the Rotary Club\, hot apple cider courtesy of the Cottage Gift Shop\, and snacks/treats courtesy of AC Cowboys. \n5:30 PM – Christmas Blessing\nPastor Jonathan Tarman of Sanlando United Methodist Church will lead us in a blessing to mark the beginning of the Christmas season. \n5:35 PM – Tree Lighting Ceremony\nAs the sun sets\, we will have a countdown to the first lightning of the large tree on County Road 427 in front of the Longwood Inn and Clock Tower Park. \n5:40 PM – Christmas Caroling\nWe will hand out songbooks and join in singing secular and sacred favorites. \nTickets\nThe blessing\, tree lighting\, and caroling are free and open to the public. \nThe tours and reception will require a ticket. Tickets are limited to the first 150 and are available on a first-come\, first-served basis. They are $5 for adults (13+) and free for kids (12 and under). We will have refreshments starting at 2 PM\, followed by a local history speaker\, and then our business meeting. \nDr. Adrienne Perry \n \nOur guest speaker will be Dr. Adrienne Perry\, the former mayor of Longwood and congressional candidate. She and her husband\, Justice James E. C. Perry\, have lived in Longwood since the mid-1970s. She was an educator and the first black mayor in Seminole County history. \nBy-Laws Changes \nAt the last meeting\, we introduced proposed changes to the bylaws. We will vote on those changes at this meeting. We will have trick or treat\ncandy tables for your littles. Vendors\, Food Truck\, Guided Walking Tour of the Historic District\nwith everyone’s favorite\, Matt Morgan (time to be announced)\, and a good old-fashioned cake\nwalk/bake sale featuring goodies from your favorite local bakers and a Halloween Cake\nDecorating Contest. He will reprise an abbreviated version of that presentation for us. It will discuss the business and bosses of organized crime in Central Florida\, focusing on the 1950s through the 1970s. \n  \n \nLewis House News \nWe are discussing ways to save this house with the City of Longwood. We are exploring restoration options\, costs\, and potential locations within the historic/Reiter Park district to give it a permanent home and community function. Find out more at the meeting. \n \nProposed By-Laws \nYes\, I know by-laws are boring\, but they’re also necessary! At the last meeting\, we introduced the proposed new by-laws. We will call for a motion to approve them at this meeting. They will help modernize our governing document. The committee worked hard on simplification\, updates\, and removing antiquated parts. Read the document… \n \nMonster Dash Aims for Big $$ \nWe have some big goals ahead of us\, and the Monster Dash 5K is our largest fundraiser of the year. Our team has been working hard to make it the best ever. We think it’s going to be a record year for participants and sponsors.
