The Longwood Historic Society was founded in 1969 to identify and preserve historic buildings. In 1971, the Bradlee-McIntyre House and the Inside-Out House were acquired, and in 1973, they were moved to their current locations in historic Longwood.
They have been restored to their present condition through a combination of grants, fundraising efforts, and private funds. In 1998, the Society acquired the Longwood Civic League/Woman’s Club building (now called the Historic Civic Center). The restoration process is ongoing while the building is used for the Longwood Historic Society membership meetings and public rentals.
The Society conducts various fundraising events each year, with the monies dedicated exclusively to the maintenance and restoration of historic buildings and the education of the public about our region’s rich history.
Longwood Historic Society offers many ways for members to get involved, from event committees to outreach committees and projects. All you have to do is contact us with your area of interest, and we will welcome your help and support.
BASICS
Formed in 1968, the Central Florida Society for Historical Preservation d/b/a Longwood Historic Society is a State of Florida registered 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization. The Society owns three historical properties located in the Longwood Historic District.
MISSION STATEMENT
To preserve and maintain our historical buildings in order that we may, through them, communicate to the community the historical culture, values and heritage of those before us. In doing so, we offer hope and direction for the future based on the wonderful and rich experiences of the past. Our present activities will always encourage family and community participation in our endeavors to keep the past alive.
VISION STATEMENT
To serve as a leader, educator, and catalyst for preservation to ensure that historical buildings and resources in the greater Seminole County region are available for future generations.
