Reiter Park
Reiter Park was created by the City of Longwood in 1980. It was named for longtime, prominent citizen Jimmy Reiter. The park was on land previously owned by the Reiter family, who homesteaded on 30 acres off of Warren Avenue in 1919. Much of the land that is now the park was at one time swamp and muck land, which was gradually filled in or drained through the construction of drainage ponds. Longwood Fire Station No. 1
The station was built in 1980 on land donated by Jimmy Reiter. When the city built the fire department, they forgot to measure for the full length of the trucks. A hole had to be cut in the front doors of the station for the ladders. This is part of what helped coin the negative nickname for Longwood as “Wrongwood” starting in the 1980s.
