The roots of Parkside Fellowship of the Nazarene are found in the Fern Park and Longwood Churches of the Nazarene.
Fern Park Church of the Nazarene was organized in 1957 and closed on April 19, 2003. During its history, the church had many programs for the community and its members. The largest average attendance for Fern Park was in 1983, with an average of 63.
In May 2002, Pastor Scott King came to the Fern Park Church. From 2002-2003, it was realized that there was no room for expansion of the Fern Park Church’s facilities. The Longwood Church was struggling, and the two congregations agreed to merge and utilize the Longwood church property.
The Longwood Church of the Nazarene was organized in 1957. Areva Barnes described how the members worked daily and constructed the building themselves. The church grew through a bus ministry and community outreach. Over the years, many programs were implemented to grow the church. During one Sunday School drive, two girls rode their horses to church and gave the kids a ride.
The largest average attendance for the Longwood church was 155 in 1983. After a period of decline in membership and attendance, the Longwood Church agreed to merge with the Fern Park church and closed on April 19, 2003.
