This home was built in 1914 constructed by Daniel Clouser (the younger brother of Josiah B. Clouser) for his mother, Sallie Clouser Lewis. She was a widow at the time and her son, Tunis Lewis, lived with her. During the twenties, Sallie remarried to prominent local Charles Entzminger.
Tunis Lewis was in his early twenties when they moved into the house. He was well known around Longwood as a notary, tax collector, and telephone operator. In extremely poor taste by modern standard, minstrel (blackface) comedy performances were popular in local talent expeditions. Tunis was noted as the town’s regular blackface performer in these shows.
About 1960, traffic on W. Warren Ave. was significantly reduced by the construction of CR 434 west of East Lake Ave. Prior to that time, east-west traffic through Longwood would use Warren.
In 2008, Sherry Allred and Donna Maxwell operated a coffee shop there in 2008 called Enchanted Cottage 2 & Brew. It was their second “Enchanted Cottage” store within the district.
It has simple hipped-roof, frame Vernacular style with a Bungalow-style front porch. Over the decades the front porch was closed to add additional space, fortunately it was restored as a porch around 2014. Today it appears very much like it did when it was first built.
